This is the second part to this article which describes various areas of New Zealand. The first part of the article was about areas within the North Island.

The South Island also has two major cities, Christchurch and Dunedin. Christchurch is the second largest city in New Zealand and Dunedin is relatively small with a population of around 120,000 and is very much considered a university town. The South Island offers completely different scenery to the North Island. Everything from rugged coastlines, to majestic mountain ranges, fjords, glaciers, and stunning lakes.

Marlbourough:

Just over the Cook Strait (the stretch of water between the bottom of the North and the tip of the South Island) from Wellington lies a gourmet paradise. The area is called Marlbourough and comprises a number of small towns including Picton, a picturesque town which is the transit point for the inter-island ferry from Wellington. The Marlborough Sounds through which the ferry sails are a maze of deep channels, sheltered waterways and secluded bays offering a wealth of activities from fishing to walking the Queen Charlotte Track. Just down the road from Picton lies Blenheim. Blenheim is estimated to have an average of 2,438 hours of sunshine every year and as such holds the title of the sunniest town in New Zealand. Blenheim is also the home to over 50 wineries and the Sauvignon Blanc produced in Marlbourough is considered to be amongst the finest in the world.

Many awards have been won from wines produced in this area. As well as the famous Sauvignon Blanc; Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Semillon are also produced so there will be something to suit most palates. In February of each year the largest Food and Wine Festival in New Zealand is held in Marlbourough. It is a great occasion offering the opportunity to try the wines and gourmet foods produced in the area.

Nelson:

Nelson is located at the top northwest corner of the South Island. Nelson offers enormous diversity in both scenery and activites. There are three National Parks which may be accessed easily from Nelson. The Abel Tasman National Park which runs along the coast offers fabulous views and great beaches. On the other hand the Nelson Lakes National Park located south of Nelson is set amongst mountains and 2 gorgeous lakes. The Kahurangi National Park contains the famous Heaphy Walking Track which takes between 4 - 6 days to complete through stunning and diverse terrain. Nelson is also a wine growing area and has several world class brewmasters producing boutique beers.

West Coast:

The West Coast runs 600 km along the coastline and is not wider than 70 km at any one point. The population of the West Coast is only about 31,000 people and they have a reputation for being extremely friendly and hospitable. This area is an adventure and outdoor wonderland offering forest and beach walks, caving, all sorts of boating experiences, glacier walks, scenic flights, mountain biking, horse treks, fishing, exploring old gold mines and ghost towns and gold panning to name a few.

Kaikoura:

Kaikoura is located on the West Coast of the South Island approximately half way between Picton and Christchurch. It is a rugged area flanked by the majestic mountains. Kaikoura is famous for whale watching and crayfish (lobster). The name Kaikoura literally translates to meal of crayfish from the Maori language. The focus in Kaikoura is on the preservation of the abundant marine life which is a stark contrast from the days of the mid 1800’s through to 1964 when whaling was the major income source for the area.

Hanmer Springs:

Hanmer Springs is a small alpine village approximately an hour’s drive from Christchurch perfect for a weekend getaway. Hanmer Springs is a thermal area and is famous for its therapeutic hot pools. Various spa treatments are on offer so a visit here is guaranteed to unwind the weariest traveller. Hanmer Springs has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere but offers something for all tastes, from numerous short walks, golf and dining, to thrill seeking adventures in jet boats or on mountain bikes. In winter you can also ski and it is possible to sit in the therapeutic pools and be surrounded by snow!

Christchurch:

Christchurch has quite often been referred to as the most English city outside of England. The River Avon runs through the middle of the city and provides a stunning and relaxing backdrop to a bustling city centre. Christchurch is famous for its beautiful gardens for which it has won international awards. There really is something for everyone in this city. Shopping is great, restaurants are many and varied, there are numerous activities to undertake and accommodation options are plentiful.

Akaroa:

Akaroa is a stunning village unlike anywhere else within New Zealand. The economy of Akaroa is very much geared up for tourism. Akaroa is about 1.5 hours drive from Christchurch out on Banks Peninsula. The most stunning views are on offer as you near the village which make it well worth the journey. Akaroa is an historic French/British settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcanic crater. There is a real French flavour to the village with all street names being French eg rue Lavaud and rue Jolie, the main streets. Akaroa is an absolutely charming and beautiful area with wonderful restaurants, plenty of accommodation options and many activities which predominantly focus around the harbour. There are both seal and penguin colonies close to the village which you may visit by boat or 4 wheel drive.

Dunedin:

Dunedin has a strong Scottish heritage which is evident in the early architecture. It has some of the best preserved Victorian and Edwardian architecture in the Southern Hemisphere. It had New Zealand’s first university and is very much a university town to this day. Dunedin is home to the steepest street in the world - Baldwin St. There is a shop at the bottom of the street where you can get a certificate after climbing to the top. Larnach Castle is a must see whilst in Dunedin. It was originally the home of an early politician. Building commenced in 1871 and was completed 12 years later. These days it is has been restored and offers upmarket accommodation. Organised harbour cruises on the Otago Harbour offer the opportunity to view albatross, fur seals, penguins, nesting birds and dolphins.

Southern Lakes:

Queenstown is perhaps the best known town in the area of the Southern Lakes. It is a small town situated on the beautiful Lake Wakatipu. It is a spectacular town in a spectacular area of the country. Queenstown offers an incredible range of activities for the tourist and is referred to quite deservedly as the adventure capital of the world. The bungy jump originated in Queenstown and there are numerous other adventure activities. Shopping is excellent and there are numerous restaurants and styles of accommodation to suit all tastes. This area has four very distinct seasons and offers some of the best skiing and snowboarding conditions in winter and early spring (June to September).

Wanaka is located approximately one hours drive from Queenstown on the shores of yet another lake, Lake Wanaka. Although many of the same types of activities are on offer, the pace is far more sedate and less hectic than Queenstown. If you prefer a quieter and more secluded atmosphere still offering the stunning vistas, Wanaka may be the place for you.
Fiordland is the largest national park in New Zealand covering almost 3 million acres. Milford Sound is one of the not to be missed locations in Fiordland. There are many day trips which can be taken from Queenstown. It is an unspoilt area offering lush vegetation, majestic mountain peaks and dramatic waterfalls.

Hopefully you have a taste of what is on offer in New Zealand. It really is the most beautiful country and truly does have something for everyone.

For a Mediterranean island with good year round weather, a friendly local English speaking population and facilities to rival that of any of her competitors, Malta is a suprisingly often forgotten island for many people planning a holiday in the Mediterranean.

Malta missed some of her own government’s tourist targets in 2005, but a recent visit by Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh resulted in four days of positive media coverage in the island’s most important market - the United Kingdom - and also in over 50 other countries attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, including Canada and Australia.

The Queen began her official visit to Malta before she opened the meeting, and was warmly greeted by friendly islanders.

Malta was governed by the British for a hundred and fifty years, and became independent in 1964. But the island has retained many British characteristics, including driving on the left, and British visitors account for nearly half of the island’s tourists.

The George Cross ranks with the Victoria Cross as Britain’s highest award for bravery - and Malta was awarded the Cross in 1942 by King George VI for the island’s resistance to German attempts to occupy the island, with Malta being under almost constant attack from June 1940.

As well as the challenge of drawing tourists away from other Mediterranean islands like Mallorca and Menorca, Malta has had to face the additional challenge of new holiday destinations in the former Eastern Bloc opening up, such as Bulgaria and Croatia, which tend to be cheaper.

Brighter Future

But where the Maltese tourist board has singularly failed to market the island’s appeal to the mass holiday market with any degree of success in recent years, the Queen’s visit has come at the right time for hotels and holiday companies hoping for a good 2006.

Tribune Properties, a British based company specialising in overseas properties including Malta comment:

‘Malta is not a high priority on the list of holiday destinations for many British people compared to the Spanish Costas, Canary and Balearic Islands. The visit of the Queen showed Malta in a very positive light, and hopefully the island’s tourist officials will be able to capitalise on the trip and increase hotel and holiday bookings in the months ahead. Given Malta’s past record of promotion though if 2006 sees an increase in visitors it will be despite of the official promotions, and not because of it.’.

More good news for the Malta holiday industry came in October with the announcement that low cost airlines had been been given the right to fly to the island.

‘This will help both the hotel and property industries in Malta’ add Tribune. ‘With the cost of getting to the island coming down, Malta should see her share of the short stay European holiday market increase substantially, increasing employment locally and benefitting the economy overall’. ###

Tribune Properties produce a country guide for Malta, including embassy contacts, the weather, a map, hotels including the Qawra Palace and Palm Court, holidays, car hire, villa holiday details and Malta flights. Included are the main towns of Sliema, Valletta, Bugibba, Qawra, St Julian’s, Mellieha and St Paul’s Bay at http://www.yourmalta.com

Details of property and real estate for sale in Malta are available by request at http://www.maltaproperty.info

For Malta hotels http://www.yourmalta.com/hotels, for a map of Malta http://www.yourmalta.com/map

When my co-author–Bill Merkel Ph.D.–and I first formed our stepfamily, I had many fantasies about how our family would behave like the “Brady Bunch” over the holidays– a happy, harmonious, singing-and-dancing unit.

Holiday Tips For Stepfamilies: Let Go Of The “Brady Bunch”
Fantasy!

When my co-author–Bill Merkel Ph.D.–and I first formed our stepfamily, I had many fantasies about how our family would behave like the “Brady Bunch” over the holidays– a happy, harmonious, singing-and-dancing unit. Then reality struck, and we couldn’t even agree on how to decorate the Christmas tree!

Ultimately, we created a “his” side-with multi-colored, blinking lights and tinsel–and a “hers” side-with hand-painted eggs and popcorn strings. Seven years later, I can tell you that trying to create a “Brady Bunch” holiday sets stepfamilies up for failure. Instead, I suggest you follow these tips:

1. Examine and try to let go of your “Brady Bunch” fantasies.

2. Continue “old” holiday traditions with your biological kids
while creating new ones for the stepfamily.

3. If the kids don’t buy into your fantasy holiday, try to see

the world from their point of view.

4. Practice the fine art of silence when your stepfamily is stressed by the holidays. You don’t have to share
all your negative feelings.

5. Don’t compete with your children’s “other” parents by showering kids with expensive gifts.

6. Stepmoms, reach out to your stepkids’ mother. Buy her a gift.
Tell her you appreciate her children.

7. Don’t fight with ex-spouses about how much time you will

spend with children over the holidays. It only hurts the children

8. Invite your ex-spouses over for a holiday party. Brace for
surprises.

9. Join a stepparent support group to share the many feelings about “family” that come up during the holiday season.

A bank in Downey California or so can have a total different actual interest rate for a 10000 dollar bank loan then a moneylender in Muskogee Oklahoma and that makes a huge clear difference in your weekly pay offs. Check out to see if the merchant bank who wants to give you a loan is secure. It doesn’t matter if you live in Buffalo New York or in Cape Coral Florida a estimable online analysis will palliate you often lots of disorder. 13.6 percent rate may appear so reasonable but will that be unceasing after you’re going to pay for your credit loan.

That’s the reason why now you really need to check and get a line if you can have a credit loan at a solid percent loan rate. Lots of of the merchant banks wil show you a rate that is looking good but feels mischievously or so after a while. Nowadays you can check into interest rates quickly online and go steady if there are possible traps you should be aware of. Be brilliant today to examine if you have a nice deal or if you don’t with the bank that offers you a money loan.

For thousands of people around the world, Canada is the immigrant’s dream
destination. Welcoming people, lack of racial tensions, a booming economy and excellent school and healthcare systems add up to a country they would love to call home.

Sounds wonderful? Are you asking yourself right now: “How do I get started?”

Unfortunately, a lot of people fall into the trap of pushing ahead with their
applications without asking themselves a far more basic question, which is: “Is
Canada right for me?”

They move to Canada having done little real research, without truly understanding
the difficulties they might face and what they need to do to overcome them. The
result is often frustration, disappointment and worry as their drain their bank
accounts while trying to get settled in.

Make no mistake, Canada holds many wonderful opportunities for immigrants, but
it takes a lot more than a permanent resident’s visa to succeed.

Research into every aspect of Canadian life, and preparation for what you can
expect here are key to settling in. With that in mind, let’s dispel any illusions you
might have about the country and do a reality check on what life is really like for
new immigrants:

How easy is it to get started?

The answer to this question depends on whom you ask. When researching for a
feature article for The
Essential Guide on Moving to Canada, most people admitted the first year is
almost always the
most difficult. Few are so lucky as to immediately land the job of their dreams. Many
don’t even get a job in the early months after the move to Canada, and if they do, it
is in a field totally different from what they have worked in.

Assuming the worst, you will need to have enough funds to tide you and your family
over for at least a few months. Citizenship and Immigration Canada insists on a
transfer of around C$10,000-$15,000 when you move to the country (the figures
vary depending on the size of your family). Our advice however is to work out
approximately how much you will need to support you and your family for the first
six months (and that includes rent/mortgage, initial ’setting-up-home’ expenses,
groceries, travel and other costs), and put that aside as a ’start-up’ fund.

In most cases, the going gets easier over time. People find better-paying jobs or
earn promotions, having overcome the ‘Canadian experience’ hurdle. As you
become more comfortable in your new surroundings, your circle of friends will
grow, you will develop your own favourite places to shop and find new avenues of
entertainment.

Even misfortunes like losing a job will not seem an outright tragedy once you are
entitled to benefits such as unemployment insurance.

The trick really is to make sure you have enough funds to tide you over the crucial
early months - basically prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.

Are jobs easy to come by?

The question of jobs is paramount in the minds of most immigrants, which is why
we have devoted an entire chapter to it. It’s often a matter of talent, timing and
luck. You should be willing to ‘reinvent’ yourself to find a job that requires your
knowledge and skills if work isn’t available in your own field.

Immigrant stories on the job front are so varied that it would be unfair to
generalize. Some find jobs almost immediately after they arrive, others wait several
months before even getting a call for an interview. It must be said though that for
most skilled immigrants, finding employment is usually just a matter of time.

What about education?

Education standards in Canada are excellent. Schooling is free, but college and
university education is expensive. Many teenagers take up summer jobs to help pay
their way through college and student loans are also available.

There are also several institutions that offer special interest courses for children and
adults. Many immigrants enrol themselves in evening or night courses to polish
their skills in subjects that might help promote themselves better in the job market.

Canadian winters? Brrrr!

Canadian winters are a huge source of concern for most immigrants, especially
those from countries where it never snows. There is no denying that the winter
months are bitterly cold. However, so long as you are properly attired when
outdoors and your home and car is equipped for the season, there is no cause for
alarm. Many immigrants are surprised by how well they cope with winter in Canada,
and children especially have a ball in the snow.

There will always be days when the weather is especially rough (usually when it’s
both cold and windy), but then which part of the world doesn’t have its bad days?

If below freezing temperatures are too chilling a prospect for you, look at setting up
home in a city nearer the West Coast. Vancouver, for example, rarely has snow and
temperatures below 0 Celsius are unusual.

Will I be able to adjust to life in Canada? Will I lose my ethnic identity?

Adjusting to the Canadian way of life really depends on the immigrant’s background
and his or her willingness to make the change. It helps to have a spirit of adventure
and the readiness for a challenge. There are many aspects of life in Canada that you
might find different from what you are used to - whether it pertains to job-hunting,
buying a home or socialising.

Having said that, it is not in the least bit true that you will start to lose your identity
or sense of roots. Immigration levels in Canada are high, and some 250,000 new
immigrants set foot on Canadian soil each year. So don’t be surprised when you find
yourself surrounded by people of your own race, creed or colour at work, on the
roads or at the malls.

Canada respects all religions and cultures, and whether you go to a church, temple,
mosque or gurudwara, you will likely find a place of worship near you.

There are several clubs and associations that cater to individual communities or
nationalities as well as organisations that help new immigrants adjust to life in
Canada, so look at using these services.

There are even television and radio networks which broadcast programmes in ethnic
languages, and as for films, we’d be surprised if you didn’t find what you were
looking for at a neighbourhood video store!

Many people get the post-holiday blues. Psychologists even have a fancy name for it: post-reinforcement pause.

What this really means is going back to normal life after lots of good stuff. It happens often after the holidays, after good vacations and after “mountain top” experiences, when you have to come back and live in the valleys. It might help you to think of it as a holiday hangover.

The first thing to understand is what you are feeling is normal, which means you probably have not been hit with a sneak attack of depression. And since it is normal, the next thing to understand is that this feeling will pass in a few days or weeks, if not before.

While you are waiting, there are at least three things you can do. First, dive into whatever you do on a daily basis, whether it’s raising kids, working outside the home or playing. Getting very involved in what you are doing helps time pass quickly, and it also allows you to create enjoyable times and good memories.

Next, have a few post-holiday get-togethers or parties. Since not much happens in January, it’s good to have a few celebrations planned just to have some fun. Hold a party on the 25th and call it “a month-after party.”

Finally, start planning your next holiday season now. Plan a few events or activities and put them on the calendar. This lets you know there is more celebration and memories coming, and gives you something to look forward to, which we all need.

Are there not Bodybuilding Supplements that can do that and I would prefer taking just one

When our trainer had first told my husband and me the four components to building muscle mass, I wasn’t really sure about it.

Now that we have been working with him and following his regime, I am starting to believe him.

Eating lots of good foods was easy, since we had been doing that. The second, working out hard was a no-choice kind of thing, since he was pretty hard on us!

In a good way. We started on Bodybuilding Supplements from Muxclemax; my husband went with the Muxcletech, weightgainer hardcore.

I decided to try the BSN. And there was no problem with the fourth, get plenty of sleep, with the work-outs he was having us do!. When the lady in the health food store asked what my goals were for taking supplements I asked what my choices were.

She rattled off a lot of them like loose fat, gain mass, get stronger, have more energy and a few more I can not remember. I actually wanted to do almost all of them. I am overweight, run down and want to be stronger.

Are there not Bodybuilding Supplements that can do that and I would prefer taking just one. We spent the better part of an hour talking about what supplement did what and finally I walked out of there with an armful of them.

1. Take along a medical professional

If your budget allows for it, and you need another chaperone on the trip, consider asking your school nurse to go along on the trip with you. Other alternatives could be the parent of a student that is a nurse or physician. This person often will get a free or at least reduced cost on the trip, but in return you will not have to worry as much about what to do if a student gets sick after you leave. Suggestion: if at all possible take the school nurse. They have liability coverage through the school just in case something goes wrong.

2. Plan ahead and make sure your chaperones are kept busy during the trip

Taking more chaperones on trip than you need is not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes adults can be even more of a pain than the students can, especially if that adult sees the trip as a vacation for themselves rather than as an educational experience for the students.

3. Ban alcohol on your trip

I’m not talking about just students, I’m also talking about adults. Our local band parent’s organization passed a resolution several years ago which forbids any adult on the trip from consuming alcohol even if no students are around. First, it sends a good message to your students. Second, it is a good safeguard against a parent calling your principal and complaining because their daughter told them that their chaperone was down drinking in the hotel bar last night.

4. Provide your chaperones with a guidebook

Make a planning packet specifically for your chaperones that spells out your expectations, their duties, and a more in-depth itinerary than the one you give to the students. Also included in this guidebook should be a roomate listing, airline flight assignments, travel agent emergency numbers, and cell phone numbers for you and your trip nurse.

5. Always have an emergency plan in place

Give each participant a wallet sized card with cell phone numbers, hotel numbers, and other important information to use on the chance that they get seperated from the group. If traveling in a country that does not speak your language, include on the card a sentence or two in the native language explaining how to contact you. Tell your participants to present this card to only to a police officer or someone they believe they can trust and only use it if needed.

It’s birthday time for Dad, Uncle Mike, brother, boyfriend, teacher or any other significant male in your life. You must buy this special fellow a present, but what to give - what to give?

It’s fun to buy birthday gifts for boys and men. You must first think about whom it is you are buying for and what his likes and dislikes are. For example, if Dad loves to fish but isn’t big on reading, a fishing pole would be ideal but a book just would not do. Younger men go for gadgets - electronics seem to be the most popular choice. Most young boys love sports, so a football, baseball, soccer ball or tennis racket would be a great gift. For the eccentric guy in your life, how about a hot air balloon ride, or a day at the zoo feeding the tigers. He’d love to drive a Ferrari, so rent one for the weekend and take him away for a get away. Tickets to a sporting event for a sport’s buff are just the ticket or tickets to a Broadway play for a theater buff would fit the bill for sure.

Of course, if you don’t have much time, the old standards will do. Men can’t turn their noses up to a digital camera, mobile phone, MP3 player, electronic organizer, etc. Go to any men’s department at the mall or shop online. You’ll find a hundred gift ideas to choose from. If you’re looking for a gift for a male friend or mentor, cufflinks, notebooks, wallets, business card holders, coffee mugs, clocks and calendars are always a tasteful gift.

The most important point to reiterate is when buying a gift for the man in your life, be sure to find out his likes and dislikes, and if he’s someone really special - seal your gift with a kiss.
