Irish Badminton Club Celebrates Silver Anniversary
Now celebrating its 25th year, the Sallins Badminton Club in Kildare, Ireland promises to be even more active when it comes to cultivating talent when it comes to this racquet sport.
The silver anniversary will officially commence during the establishment’s celebration on August 29, 2009 at the Bridgewater Inn.
According to reports, it was then parish priest Colum Swan who asked the volunteers and members of the Sallins Youth Club to take part in a symposium in Clane and encouraged them to come up with a project that can really help the community. The badminton club was the agreed upon project.
The badminton club has proven itself in providing a sporting and social outlet for the community members, regardless of their age. The club was founded by Orla Hughes, Anita Fanning, Donal Wash, Carmel Donnelly and Veronica Buggle.
One member recalled that the overwhelming success of the club led to even more applications and that the single court that was set up for players could no longer accommodate everyone thus an expansion took place, increasing the courts and even badminton sets to three.
A number of members have gone on to win titles in countrywide badminton competitions.
The limited facilities did not stop the members from performing well in competitions. In fact, prestigious competitions held in Dublin, Kildare and Leinster have featured players from this club and some of the club members stood up to the challenge and eventually won a lot of titles woth their badminton rackets.
As of today, a committee has been set up to oversee the operations of this continuously growing club. More projects and even more tournaments are in store for the members.
