Unforgettable Marks Left by a Exceptional Father

The storey we all preferred to listen as children was the one about dad that would explain why his face was covered in what we as kids saw as millions of small pricks and marks of which I will tell you all about closer to the close of my tribute to the greatest dad a daughter could ever have had. His demise at the early age of 54 came as a shock especially when his appointment for the hospital was to get a plaster cast removed only to have him dropped dead in the waiting room.

Although our his death came suddenly, the fondest of memories still held a compelling presence in my head for twenty-six years. If I could turn back time, I would apologize for the times I took him for granted. Unfortunately, it’s overly late and I would have to bear this load throughout my life. But recognizing the man he was, I’m sure he will forgive me.

They say the good pass away early and that is what has assisted to relieve the resentment I felt towards the man up above for taking dad so soon.People see the word “special” in a lot of ways. So what do I see in my father that makes him to a greater extent special than the others?

Dad and his Fathers Day Gifts functioned 34 years in the army but trouble was brewing up on communist day in Hong Kong where dad was placed. It was the sound of alarm bells that prompted the evacuation into motion for the folks living outside the barracks to come back to the camp immediately.

8 of us were huddled in the rear of an army wagon with only pillows used for protection. We readily followed the order to hold our heads down – the Chinese riot mobs were appearing up from the entrenches that lined the road back to the barracks amply armed with all sorts of killing instruments – twenty one rocks entered the wagon on the journey back to camp.

You can only picture what the truck and the driver looked like when a barrage of boulders were thrown into the front portion of the wagon. military officers didn’t give a medal of courage to the driver. The reason why was because he should not have been driving at the time, so all the pats on the back went to the wrong man sitting up front.

I often inquire today this day would we all have got out alive if the boot was on the other foot, if those drivers did not violate the rules.

The result of that dreadful day was a truck with no windshield, a driver with no face and eight people who lived to recount the story. Now, you know the cause why the scars on my father’s face scarred us for life.
