Showdown Value
Showdown value is based on the expectancy that your poker hand is a winner, or has the chance of winning, when there is no more betting to be made. Most times showdown value is discussed at the casino online after the river card is dealt in Texas Hold’em because there are no more cards that can affect the value of your hand. At this time, a player has to decide if he can win with the value of his hand, or if he can only win by betting his opponent off of theirs. If you have showdown value, you basically think that only a stronger hand would call a bet or a raise, and only a weaker hand would fold to one. Hence, you check, hoping to showdown the winner playing poker online. When do you have value, and when don’t you? Sometimes, rarely, ace high can have showdown value. You’re rarely going to bet Ace high knowing you’re the winner. You might bet it as a bluff, or sometimes call a river bet that you think might have blanked your opponent completely. But in most cases, a hand that has showdown value is more likely a small pocket pair or maybe 2nd or 3rd pair on the board. Let’s say you have Jh 9h and you flop the flush draw with a Qh 4h 7d board. You don’t have anything but a flush draw at this point. The pot checks around and a Jc comes on the turn. You’ve now made 2nd pair and still have the flush draw. You bet it and get a call. The river is the 2s and you’ve missed your draw. You have a pair of jacks on a queen high board. If you bet, you might get a call from a weak top pair, or some better jacks. You’re not likely to get a call from someone with a 4, 7, or 2 in their hand, and you’re also not likely to get called by someone who also missed their draw but might have ace high. What you have, is showdown value. You hand can beat a lot of hands, but not the best ones. If you bet and get called, you are likely to be beat. So, you might want to check and perhaps win a small pot without risking anything more,
